Jason's Letter:
"Hello everyone,
I want to write a few lines to introduce myself, my expectations of our student athletes, and upcoming changes as we finish up the year. Let me start by telling you I am extremely excited about the opportunity to lead the athletic program here in Hamlin and truly thankful for the outpouring of support everyone has shown in the last week. We find ourselves in a unique situation, over the past four years I have been an educator as well as an assistant football, assistant girls basketball and Head Softball coach for Hamlin. I have taught the majority of our kids both in a classroom and competitive setting. I know how special our kids are and what they are capable of when they put the work in. I have worked with both the boys and girls programs and I feel that the majority of the student-athletes know what they are going to get out of me and what to expect on a daily basis, which will save us valuable time during this transition.
A little about me that you might not know, I am originally from Mitchell, Indiana, a small community of about 5,000 residents in Southern Indiana. I graduated High School in 1993, I played Baseball in college at Lassen Community College, Kansas City Kansas, and finished at Wayland Baptist University where I met my wife, Casey. We have two children, Cora(Jr), Jantz (So) both student-athletes at Hamlin, 3 dogs that I am trying to keep in my backyard, and a few cats running around. My mother, Vicki Botos, recently moved here to Hamlin so you will see her around usually tagging along with Casey at all the sporting events. I have been in the education field for 22 years, I have taught/coached at every level in Texas, 6-man to 6A in multiple capacities with experience as Head Football, Assistant Head Football, Head Softball, Head Baseball, Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, Assistant Soccer, and a Junior High Coordinator.
My core values are:
BE WHERE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE!
DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO!
BE THERE EARLY OR ON TIME!
ALL WHILE DOING THE RIGHT THING!
My beliefs on discipline, accountability, and responsibility:
I believe in Choices & Consequences, we all make choices each and every day, and each choice has consequences, either good or bad, but a CHOICE brings CHANGE to future events.
I will always be Firm, Fair, and Consistent with our kids!!!
We will instill these in our athletes daily…
My immediate GOAL for our students and athletic programs is simple: BE BETTER! Not only in athletics, I want our students to BE BETTER, in the classroom, at home, in the community, in their dedication, discipline, accountability, the list goes on… just BE BETTER, if we can become better humans, the X’s & O’s will take care of themselves!"
